Donations Info

At LDAPEI, we see a future where every Island child is screened for learning disabilities, early intervention is applied equally throughout the Island , and ongoing accommodations for people with LD of all ages – children, youth, and adults – are readily made at school and work.

Your support of the LDAPEI can help us build a province where Islanders with learning disabilities no longer slip through the cracks, a province where everyone can rise to their true potential.

LDAPEI is extremely grateful for the generous donation of $1000 from Easter Seals Society of PEI. The money was used toward the purchase of Adaptive Technology, computer software which assists children with learning disabilities to improve their reading and writing.

We encourage the public to purchase tickets, make a donation, and/or tune in to this year's Easter Seals Telethon held at the Conferderation Centre of the Arts March 31, 2008.

Investing in Our Future

When planning your estate, you may want to support a cause that’s important to you like the Learning Disabilities Association of PEI. Your legacy gift to the LDAPEI will ensure we can continue to help future generations living with learning disabilities realize their true potential.

Leaving your legacy is as simple as naming the LDAPEI as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, your RRSP or RRIF or a gift in your will.

When you make a donation through your will, your estate will receive considerable tax benefits, up to 100% of your annual net income, compared to 75% otherwise.

It’s important to consult with your family and seek legal counsel before making substantial bequests or changes to your estate. Your lawyer can also advise you on estate tax benefits and help you prepare or alter your will to meet your changing circumstances.

LDAPEI would like to acknowledge the Roland and Dora Buntain Memorial Fund (1991).  The Buntain’s will written in 1975, left one-third of their estate to the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada  to be used “for the benefit of children living in the Province of Prince Edward Island”.  This continuous funding source (as only the income earned on the capital of the fund shall be used  to support projects or activities consistent with the purpose of the fund) has been very beneficial to LDAPEI. In the past, LDAPEI has used this fund to provide many educational workshops to the public, and to re-establish an Association in PEI.  The memory of Roland and Dora Buntain will live on in PEI through their generous donation.

Immediate Tax-Benefits

Gifts of appreciated securities, including stocks, bonds, futures, and mutual fund units, give you tax relief within your lifetime while providing important resources to the LDAPEI. Donors of securities benefit from no taxes paid on capital gains donations verses 50% paid otherwise, making this kind of gift immediately attractive.

Transferring ownership of a life insurance policy also gives you immediate tax benefits while guaranteeing important funding for the Learning Disabilities Association of PEI now.

Double your donation!

Many Canadian companies offer matching gift programs where they’ll match their employee’s donations to eligible nonprofit organizations, often at 1:1 or 2:1 ratios.

To double the value of your LDAPEI donation, ask your personnel, human resources or public relations department if your employer has a matching gift program. If so, ask your employer to match your gift to LDAPEI.

Matching gift programs benefit both employees and employers, allowing them to work together to improve the quality of life for Canadians with LD.
