Brief history of Learning Disabilities Association of PEI
A group of parents met throughout the province to share their common concerns about learning disabilities in the early 70's. In November 1975, the Prince Edward Island Association for Children with Learning Disabilities was incorporated. During the 70's and 80's, the Association was very active with three Chapters in the province. At one time, the Association was one of the strongest in the country. In the early 90's, the Association fell on hard times and the Association stopped functioning for nearly a decade.
In July 2003, a new group of concerned parents and professionals met to bring about a rebirth of the Association, under the name of Learning Disabilities Association of PEI. For the first two years, with the PEI Literacy Alliance's help, LDAPEI established a 12 member volunteer board who worked to advance the interests of learning disabled Islanders.
LDAPEI is a registered non-profit, member supported charitable organization. As LDAPEI continues to rebuild from the grass roots up to bring services and a voice to learning disabled Islanders, please consider joining LDAPEI. If you choose to become a member of LDAPEI, you will automatically become members of LDA Canada.
